Neck pain
The neck (or cervical spine) is made up of the bottom part of the skull called theocciput and the top seven bones of the spine (vertebrae). Around 70 % of the population will have neck pain at some point in their lives. The neck allows much more movement than the low back due to the clever design of its joints; however, the neck is just as susceptible to sprains and strains as any other joints in the body. Modern lifestyles place increasing amounts of stress on the upper back and neck; prolonged computer use (i.e. the average office worker) increases the forces the muscles and joints are putting up with and, if this goes on for many years, more permanent changes will start to be seen.
The most common causes of neck pain are over-use, trauma or deformity. Muscles tighten to protect the injured joints causing symptoms of pain and stiffness. Normal movement will therefore be reduced and can affect things such as driving (turning your head at roundabouts). Problems in the neck can also cause pain, weakness and pins and needles into the arms and hands. Both muscles and/or nerve aggravation can be the cause of this which is why full orthopaedic and neurological testing will be carried out by your chiropractor to find out the source of the problem.
Please remember; our Chiropractors are all fully qualified and members of The General Chiropractic Council who all use a range of techniques including manipulation, massage, electrotherapy, and can give advice on posture, exercise and ergonomics.
What should you expect when you first visit us?
After your warm welcome you will have a chance to relax while you fill in a questionnaire that helps us understand your condition. Once completed, your chiropractor will greet you and take you through to their examination room to take a full, comprehensive medical history. They will then do a thorough physical examination which will allow them to find out EXACTLY what is wrong with you and start the process of getting you
better. Condition allowing, we also start treatment on your first visit as we know
it’s very important to you to start feeling better straight away!
Don’t take our word for it, hear what our other patients have to say about
us...
Our patients range from birth to 92!
We know how many people we have
helped over the past 9 years and how we could be helping you. We think we do a great job, but don’t believe us, see what our patients have to say, in their own words, about what we do and how we have helped them. We hope you can
understand a little of how they felt when their pain eased and they could say to
themselves “I’m better”!
So what do YOU need to do next to start getting better?
If you click on the link below it will take you through to our new patient paperwork which is a copy of the form we usually give you on arrival. To save yourself time you can print off and complete it in advance and bring it along to your appointment with you, but don’t worry, you can always do it when you arrive over a cup of tea or coffee. Our
receptionists will be on hand to offer help if you require it.
If you care enough about your teeth to see your dentist regularly to look prevent tooth decay, who is looking after your back to prevent spinal decay?
Chiropractors deal with conditions that affect the bones, nerves and muscles of the body, so if you have a problem involving them, it’s a fair chance we’ll be expert at resolving your problem, click here to find out more.
