Pregnancy

Pregnancy should be an enjoyable life experience, however, during pregnancy a woman's body goes through enormous changes.

Due to ligament laxity and the shifting of the centre of gravity, mothers-to-be can develop poor posture and more than 50% of pregnant women experience 'low back pain'.

There are many difficulties that you may experience during pregnancy, such as back pain, sore legs, headaches, sciatica, shortness of breath, dizziness, morning sickness, fatigue and Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction that can be attributable to the health of your spine. As Chiropractors are trained to recognise mechanical dysfunction of the spine, along with the muscles and joints, Chiropractic can be a great source of relief during the 9 months of pregnancy (and beyond).

Chiropractic treatment offers a safe, gentle, drug free alternative for the relief of discomfort during pregnancy and can play an important role in ensuring that your body and spine are functioning normally.

This can result in less pain for the mother to be and more room for the developing baby so that both mother and baby experience less physical and emotional stress.

Also, by reducing the stresses and strains on the joints and muscles, normal daily activities can be continued throughout the 9 months and many women find that labour is shorter and less painful.

Pregnancy can cause uncomfortable effects, including changes in posture due to weight gain that cause pain in your back, hips, groin and legs. Postural changes may also influence the ligaments and muscles attached to the pelvis and in turn the positioning of the uterus and birth canal.

Although a natural process, birth is sometimes traumatic for both mother and baby and chiropractic can help you and your baby recover.

What should you expect when you first visit us? After your warm welcome you will have a chance to relax while you fill in a questionnaire that helps us understand your condition. Once completed, your chiropractor will greet you and take you through to their examination room to take a full, comprehensive medical history. They will then do a thorough physical examination which will allow them to find out EXACTLY what is wrong with you and start the process of getting you
better. Condition allowing, we also start treatment on your first visit as we know
it’s very important to you to start feeling better straight away!
